I am struggling to confront my fears; especially in the area of finance and money management. Why do I struggle so much in this area even if there is nothing horribly wrong? What is it that scares me so much? I believe that my pride and ego have gotten in my way for much of... Continue Reading →
Our son came to visit for the holidays and we headed south to the Texas Hill Country to watch him compete in one of the Tejas Trail’s ultra-race events, this one held at a new venue called “Camp Eagle” in far southwest Texas near the Mexico border. While not to the level of some of... Continue Reading →
Our family got together this past weekend in Tampa, FL for the marriage of one of our nephews. As usual it was good to see everyone and to reconnect as jobs, marriages, and life have us living in different places all over the country and with little time to keep up like we would like... How you see the world is based on your values and the choices you make each day. If fear and hate fills your heart you will have a difficult time accepting your neighbor as your own. If fear cripples you into inaction and anxiety you will be unable to find true happiness and fulfillment. You... Continue Reading →
Meredith and I headed out from Fort Collins, Colorado towards Laramie, Wyoming before detouring straight east across Highway 80 to Sidney, Nebraska. On our return back to Fort Collins we detoured through northeast Colorado through the aptly named Pawnee National Grassland. Talk about some wide open spaces. The grassland is roughly 30 x 60 square miles or nearly 200,000 acres that are virtually uninhabited by mankind.
There is hiking and camping in the park although we didn’t have time to stop on this short day trip. The area doesn’t look too different than parts of North Texas where we live with buffalo grass and blue stem being the main grasses growing on the prairie.

The title of one his books “You Need More Money” claims, as the title states, that the key to happiness is making more money. In the book’s introduction the author claims “…the truth is that everywhere you... Continue Reading →
I ran across a video Floating Island of Trash that really caught my attention and reminded me of something that I am thinking about more and more. And that is, "What are we leaving for the generation behind us"? The obvious problem seems to be that we are a throw-away society and manufacture more and more things... Continue Reading →
There is a strong interest in Minimalism and the desire to not be weighed down with earthly possessions and the burdens that are often associated with them. Some would argue that the world offers you nothing of value and that the continued pursuit of material possessions leads to misery and countless disappointments. I tend to... Continue Reading →
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always... Continue Reading →
Sadly when I think of theology and philosophy I first think of the famous Monty Python skit “The Philosophers' Football Match” instead of anything I learned during 36 hours of theology and philosophy courses at The University of St. Thomas. The Philosophers' Football Match was a Monty Python sketch depicting a football match in the... Continue Reading →
